I use PowerPoint2007 for my presentations, which I 'can' save into 2003 format, but then editing of the cooler features is lost.
I thought about uploading the slides to here for you all to play with and use, but there's a 2mb limit and the file sizes (I use a lot of youtube movies in my presentations) is waaaay over that. Even pdf versions of the slide decks are usually over 2mb. Would it be of value if I zipped up my presentations and left you with links to the 2007 versions, complete with movies, etc.? Lee

| jkitamori | Wiki "chaos" -- is it avoidable? | 1 | Jan 11 2009, 3:26 PM EST by davefleet | ||||

I'm creating a wiki for a group of 30+ people to collaborate on what will be an evolving, living list of best practices. On principle, I think the open process for writing and editing is ideal. But as the one who is ultimately responsible for this document, I'm anticipating a confused, chaotic mess (ranging from wrong or confusing info that can't be verified or attributed to a given writer, or having to moderate a "contributor war"). I'm eager to learn from your experience.
(Apologies in advance if this has already been addressed; I've searched the archives and didn't find anything, so I'll assume this is a new discussion here.)

Social bookmarking is a great way to promote your blog, articles or URLs with the right community. Use social bookmarking search features to track down groups of interest. It's easy to lose track of time using all the social bookmarking sites;awesome, you must be one of the most pathetic persons on the internet.

Hi, I work in internal communications for a company in the UK. This stuff's fascinating and patently going to have an immense impact on how people communicate inside large organisations. One question though: how do you put it all into practice in a corporate? For example, if I wanted to help our CEO set up an internal blog, do I need our IT department to buy the software and "host" it? Same question for wikis?

I thought it may me interesting to talk about some of the not so popular sites out there using social media to create a great business - companies in the social media trenches. For instance http://davesgarden.com/ - not a pretty site. However at last count they have over 350,000 members, about 6,900 of those are paying subscribers, over 25,000 posts in their forums.

To help you reach goals your press releases should
-be consistant , posting one atleast 1x per month -use different prospectives, angles & approaches for each release to broaden the audiences your message will be relevant to -make use of your digital assets to add depth & texture to the content no one wants to read just plain text, releases are a VISUAL medium -written with the concept in mind that a press release can and should act as a stepping stone from someones search to your site. -be tailored to reach out to the 3 audiences that are looking for info online, 1. the e-commerce customer 2. the media and 3. the search engines. -be optimized w/key words to be more relevant to those 3 audiences, it is a skill that can be learned

It might be useful to elaborate on the difference between social browsing and social bookmarks as it's not immediately clear.
StumbleUpon, for example, is listed on both pages.

Near the end of this page, the following text appears:
"In reaction, Todd Defren of SHIFT Communications introduced his 'social media press release template' and kicked off a debate that continues to this day." What debate? Does this simply refer to the ongoing discussing about what an SMNR should include, how it should be distributed, etc.? To me, mentioning some ongoing "debate" without a link or an explanation leaves a huge hole in this otherwise great start to an article.
